Turn to gold when you press play!

Our throwback jams cycled through different eras of punk, beginning with ’70s Afropunk innovators DEATH, and ending with RIOT GRRRL and H09909. The best part? Coresh shared EXCLUSIVE NEW MUSIC (and these guys are so underground that you can’t even find them on the internet yet)! #FVCKMAINSTREAMLA

Our 20th episode perfectly embodies #SNATCHPOWER’S twin ethos of femme empowerment and creative inspiration. Our guest this week is ERIC COLY, founder and C.E.O. of socially conscious fashion label LE DESSEIN (“The Project”). Senegalese-born, European-educated and LA-based, Eric’s label aims to assist girls in developing countries acccess their irrevocable right to education. Elsewhere, CHELSEA MONE’T debuts a new linguistics segment, DECOLONIZE YOUR MIND, in which she gives primers on indigenous and pan-African languages. Finally, this week’s CLITERATURE segment on ‘THE BOOK OF MARTHA’ by Black female sci-fi writer OCTAVIA BUTLER spurrs an excellent group discussion about owning the consequences of your art– and more personally, our hopes/fears for how our creative output might shape the perspectives (and thus behaviors) of future generations. Also, lots of SUN RA!

In this all Snatches on deck–in pasties– episode we take a trip to AMRA ISLAND to meet Oakland’s MAYA SONGBIRD. We also chatted with REBDUCE, an LA-based artist and dear friend of the Snatch crew. SONDRIAWRITES came through with the third installment of CLITERATURE, and we rapped (pun intended) the episode up with KRYSTLE barring out the cypher. If you are a leader follow the SNATCH!
#16: TOUCH FEEL TASTE FUCK (FT. MIBBS & NOCANDO)
Our longest episode to date and one we’re super proud of. Guesting are the delightful rap game Bill Murray, MIBBS of PAC DIV, and rapper/HELLFYRE CLUB label head/father/LOW END THEORY host, Mr. THIRD WORLD HUSTLE himself, NOCANDO. We got into it with these boos about everything from hugging Jay-Z to grieving on wax. We also previewed no less than THREE new songs off MIBBS’ forthcoming Hellfyre Club EP, KILLER OF SHEEP, and live renditions of cuts off NOCANDO’S next record, CATCH & KILL. Man, this shit was lit. Special shouts to all the Yoshinoyas in the hood.

We spin some old faves off their 2014 collaboration THE REBOUND, and preview a future fave or two from a project that may or may not be called WHITE BOYS. We also debut a new segment called CLITERATURE (challenging you to read between the lines), in which snatchcaster SONDRIAWRITES tackles the culture vultures in LANGSTON HUGHES’ “Slave On The Block.”

She also fields questions from SONDRIAWRITES on finding her life’s purpose, art and womanhood, and how she selects the 150 films that screen at the festival each year.

On this very special post-apocalyptic newscast, GAZARII KAWAII recounted the #SNATCHPOWER creation myth (in which all of the surviving men find themselves with child, and technology is not in service), drag artist RARA VON D covered weather and sports (read: bulges), and Mabel The Witch of Wallstreet bitched about financial ruins. Elsewhere, correspondent SONDRIAWRITES called in from Synergy @ The Airliner with their resident artist REBDUCE and THE UHURAVERSE interviewed a self-described “maniac” on the street. On the musical tip, #SNATCHPOWER’S resident dinosaur TEE REX performed some stripped down originals.

On the musical tip, DAYNA “Ginger Snatch” Drew of the band SEASONS played and looped a trumpet instrumental live in the studio, and GO SEMI freestyled.
